AREVA has signed a cooperation agreement with VNIIAES to provide safety instrumentation and control (I&C) systems for the first four VVER-type reactors to be built in Russia.

The agreement covers two 1,200MW reactors at the Novovoronezh and Leningrad sites.

The agreement follows one signed in 2008 between the two companies for the modernisation of the Kola nuclear power plant, situated in the far north of Russia.

VNIIAES is a subsidiary of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation and is the integrator of the safety I&C systems for Russia’s new-build programme.

AREVA provides technological solutions for nuclear power generation, electricity transmission and distribution.
