Siemens Limited, Siemens AG’s Indian subsidiary, is to invest INR 2.75bn to expand its steam turbine manufacturing facility in Vadodara, Gujarat.

The expansion programme, scheduled for completion by 2010, will triple the manufacturing capacity at the factory.

The programme will also add three production bays totaling 14,000 square meters to the existing production facility, giving the factory a capacity to manufacture steam turbines up to 100MW.

In addition to the domestic market, the factory will be able to strengthen its export business to Asia, Africa and Europe, the company said.

The expansion programme at the factory is also expected to provide additional employment to about 200 people.

Siemens Limited set up a modern steam turbine factory at Vadodara worth INR 300m, which was operational in January 2007. Spread over an area of 60,000 square meters, the factory currently manufactures single-stage and multi-stage steam turbines up to 45MW for industrial applications.
