Chubu Electric Power said that it would restart its 1,267MW reactor number five at its Hamaoka nuclear power plant on 25 June for the first time in nearly six months after an unplanned shutdown, according to Reuters.

Chubu Electric shut the unit manually on 30 December 2008 due to irregular gas conditions within the unit.

Hamaoka nuclear power plant is located in Omaezaki city, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. The station has five units contained within a net area of 1.6 square kilometers.

The construction of the sixth unit started in December 2008. On completion, it is speculated to replace Hamaoka-1 and Hamaoka-2.
