US Announces Almost $14m to Fund New Wind Energy Projects

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has announced it will fund 28 new wind energy projects with up to $13.8m.

Secretary Steven Chu said the funding includes $12.8m, and that the projects will help address market and deployment challenges including wind turbine research and testing and transmission analysis, planning and assessment.

Award amounts will be subject to final negotiation.

Secretary Chu made the announcement following the release of the DOE’s 2008 wind technologies market report, detailing $16bn in investment in wind projects made in the US in 2008.
