The Scottish Government has sanctioned two new wind farm projects that will provide enough green energy to power 43,000 households.

The Berry Burn wind farm, which will be located on the Altyre Estate near Forres, will have 29 turbines and a 78MW capacity. The Millennium wind farm near Fort Augustus will be expanded by six turbines to increase the current capacity by 15% from 50MW to 65MW.

The combined projects will generate 100 construction-related jobs and five full time jobs, according to the government.

At present, the Scottish government Energy Consents and Deployment Unit is processing 25 wind farm projects and nine hydro project applications.

Scotland’s overall installed renewables capacity is more than 3GW with an additional 3GW under construction to meet 50% of electricity demand from renewables by 2020.
