Talks began this week in the US between representatives from 17 of the world’s largest carbon polluting nations in order to consolidate differences ahead of the UN climate change conference in December.
Starting at the State Department in Washington, negotiators will meet for two days before moving on to New York and then Pittsburgh.
The move follows a warning from UN chief Ban Ki-moon that world leaders need to “get moving” on climate change with the US appearing to resume a leadership role on the issue.
Included in the talks were representatives from France, Italy, Germany, Britain, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Russia, South Africa and the US.
