PG&E has completed repair work at its Diablo Canyon Unit 1 nuclear power station and increased power capacity to 78%, the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) said in its power reactor status report.

The 1,122MW Diablo Unit 1 is located at Avila Beach, San Luis Obispo County, nearly 195 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

The unit was shut down on 21 September to repair one of the six feedwater heaters that provides feedwater to the steam generators, the company said.

All six feedwater heaters are required in order to run the unit at full power.

It came back online on 23 September.

The NRC report also stated that the adjacent 1,118MW Unit 2 currently operating at full capacity, is expected to close in October for a one-month refuelling outage.
