Chinese wind turbine manufacturer A-Power Energy Generation Systems will build a $1.5bn wind farm along with US companies in west Texas, US.

The wind farm will be one of the biggest wind development projects in the US and will provide power sufficient for about 180,000 homes, Reuters reports.

Construction of the wind farm, funded by Chinese banks and A-Power Energy Generation Systems, will begin shipping 2.5MW turbines for the wind farm in March 2010.

Other partners in the project include Renewable Energy Group, an asset management firm, and Cielo Wind Power.
