E.ON is expanding its US wind energy portfolio with the opening of the Stony Creek wind farm in western Pennsylvania.

The wind farm is the fifth such project completed by E.ON in 2009.

The Stony Creek wind farm has been set up on the site of a former surface mine and comprises 35 General Electric turbines with an installed capacity of 53MW.

The wind farm will supply about 16,000 homes, according to the company.
