Brazil will not cut renewable energy production even as the country's oil output rises, the country's climate ambassador Sergio Serra said.

Serra said that renewable energy, mainly biofuel and hydroelectric, account for half of the power needs of the country.

"There will be no change to the energy mix," Serra told Bloomberg reporters at Copenhagen's climate summit.

The Brazilian Government said last month it would reduce its emissions by about 40% from the current projections for 2020.
