Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) is about to clinch a US$862.8m (KRW1tn) deal to sell 300 wind power generators to China-based Huaneng Group, according to Korean reports.

The South Korean shipbuilder was planning to provide 230 1.5MW and 2.0MW wind power generators to Huaneng late next year, after establishing a production line in China by October 2010, according to the Maeil Business Newspaper which quoted a Hyundai Heavy vice chairman.

Industry sources say the deal could be biggest in the South Korean wind power sector, according to the report.

HHI, which recently commenced production at its wind power generator plant, has not confirmed the deal.
