Global engineering company Kellogg Brown & Root (KBR) has delayed the final decision on building an offshore wind turbine plant at the Nigg fabrication yard in the Scottish Highlands to 2010.
KBR said it will scrutinise the proposal as it involves high risk due to uncertainty over renewables markets.
The Nigg yard that built some of North Sea’s largest oil platforms is involved in a complex ownership dispute that has rendered it largely redundant.
An investment of over $143m is envisaged, if KBR decides to go ahead with the project that will revive the site.
