Wärtsilä to Operate Indian Coal-fired Power Plant

Wärtsilä will operate and maintain a coal-fired power plant for Hindustan Zinc to provide electricity for its Dariba Mine's mining and smelting complex. The contract will also include service for the coal and ash handling facilities and a de-mineralised water plant.

The first phase of the power project is expected to be commissioned in March 2010. The final phase is expected to be underway by August 2010.

Wärtsilä operates and maintains 130 installations, with a total output of about 4,900MW throughout the world.

Hindustan Zinc is India's only integrated producer of zinc and lead.
