China has launched a new National Energy Commission (NEC) to coordinate and centralise energy policy-making, which is presently distributed across various agencies. The body will strengthen strategic energy policy and coordinate overall planning, according to a report by AFP.

The commission is also expected to help individual state-owned energy firms win overseas deals through government support.
The new policy-making body was created after China entered into numerous energy collaborations and pledged to reduce harmful emissions to 15% by 2020, reports AFP.
The commission will be headed by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and include ministers from the finance ministry, commerce ministry and central bank.
