An ACS Servicios-led consortium will overhaul the Manzanillo power station for Mexico's Federal Electricity Commission.

ACS, Grupo COBRA and Inelectra will upgrade the Mexican plant to operate on natural gas and plans to use GE-built turbines for the project, according to Reuters.

The plant presently uses Chevron Fuel Oil 6 and the modernisation is expected to reduce pollution and meet growing demand for electricity in the city.

Under a 15-year contract with Repsol-YPF, Mexico will import liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Peru to fuel the power plant starting in 2011.
