Some 2,000 new wind power stations will be constructed across the country in the next ten years, Sweden’s enterprise minister Maud Olofsson announced.
Writing in Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter, the minister said the move would give a further boost to green energy produced in the country, which aims to have an output of renewable energy amounting to 50% of energy needs by 2020.
The new wind power stations will increase green energy production by 25 terawatt hours by 2020.
Last year about 8 billion kronor (€770m, $1.1bn) was invested in 200 wind power stations with a combined capacity of circa 500MW.
Last month the Swedish Energy Agency approved an €14m investment grant to build the world’s biggest wave power plant on the Swedish west coast.
