Kosovo has shortlisted four international bidders for a tender to build a 1,000MW coal-fired power plant, the Minister of Energy and Mining Justina Shiroka-Pula said today.

The four groups include India's Adani Power; AES of the US and Turkey's Demir Export AS; Park holding; and a consortium, including Greece's Public Power Corp and ContourGlobal of the US and Britain.

"We have decided that four of the six applicants that have submitted expression of interest have meet the pre-qualification criteria," Shiroka-Pula told a news conference, reports Reuters.

The Czech power group CEZ also said today that it would not take part in the tender as part of a consortium with AES because of delays in the project and changing terms.

Last year Kosovo gave up its plans to build a 2,000MW power plant aimed at turning the Balkan country into a regional power exporter due to a lack of investor interest, reports Reuters.

It has since scaled back the project to a 1,000MW plant costing from €700m to €1bn.
