Solar company Sunpower has announced a partnership with K6 S.a.S. to build two 1MW photovoltaic solar power plants in Italy.

The plants, which will be built in Casamassima and Conversano in the Puglia region, will generate power to provide electricity locally and contribute
to Italy's national electric grid.

The firm said it will install SunPower solar and proprietary T20 tracker technology at the sites. The tracker follows the sun during the day and delivers up to 30% more energy than fixed-tilt systems and requires half the land area to produce the same amount of energy as conventional dual-axis trackers, the company said.

The plants are expected to be completed by August 2010.
