Constellation Energy has sealed a deal to buy the Criterion wind project in Maryland, US, from Clipper Windpower.

The firm will develop, own and operate the 70MW wind farm and purchase 28 Clipper Liberty 2.5MW wind turbines for the project, under the new deal.

Constellation Energy senior vice president Kathleen W. Hyle said the market for clean energy products and services is growing rapidly in Maryland and across competitive energy markets nationwide.

Old Dominion Electric Cooperative will buy power from the project for a period of 20 years and provide energy and renewable energy credits.

Old Dominion is a not-for-profit wholesale power provider serving public electric cooperatives in Maryland, Delaware and Virginia.

Constellation plans to apply for an incidental take permit from the US Fish and Wildlife Service to complete the project.
