GDF SUEZ subsidiary Electrabel said it has opened a power plant at Amercoeur, Belgium, following upgrade work.
Located in Wallonia, Belgium, Amercoeur has been operating with two units fuelled by gas and coal.
Unit 1 of the two units has been upgraded with a GE 109FB gas turbine-generator converting it into a natural gas-fired combined-cycle power station and increasing its capacity to 420MW from 120MW.
The upgrade has also increased the plant thermal efficiency from approximately 38 to 57%.
The station was last upgraded in 1967.
