Siemens plans to build a transformer manufacturing facility in the Voronezh region of Russia.

The RUB1.5bn (€40m) plant’s annual production capacity will amount to approximately 100 transformers.

The firm said it will start building the facility in August this year with production expected to start by late 2011.

Siemens will produce, distribute and maintain power transformers to meet the needs of the integrated national power grid and the provision of power supply to production facilities.

The production plant, which will be integrated into the Siemens global technological and production network, will produce transformers of up to 220kV in the first stage.
