Utility Metgasco has won approval from the New South Wales Government, Australia, to build the Richmond Valley Power Station.

The 30MW gas-fired power plant will generate enough power to supply 30,000 homes and consume approximately 2.3 petajoules of natural gas per year, the company said.

Power from the project will be connected to the existing 66kV power line network through the Casino/Lismore interconnector about 800m from the power station site.

Gas for the project will be supplied from the firm's Casino gas project and coal-seam gas.
