American Superconductor Corporation (AMSC) and Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) are teaming up to make 5MW wind turbines for use across the growing offshore wind market.
The full conversion wind turbines will be built by HHI, while AMSC is expected to provide components for them.
Hyundai will buy power electronic components for the wind turbines from AMSC, once it begins volume production of the turbines by the end of 2011.
Under the deal, HHI will market, manufacture and sell 5MW wind turbines globally.
The new agreement is an expansion of an existing agreement between the two firms to produce 1.65MW and 2MW wind turbines.
