Aker Verdal has won an EPC contract from RWE Innogy to supply wind turbine foundations for its Nordsee Ost wind project in the German part of the North Sea.

Under the €115m ($141.9m) contract, Aker will supply foundations for 48 wind turbines of 6MW class to include steel jackets and piles.

The jacket substructures will be installed at a water depth in the range of 22m to 25m.

The contract also covers engineering, procurement, fabrication, load-out and sea-fastening of the steel substructure and piles. Work is expected to begin in January 2011.

The 293MW wind farm is expected to generate its first power in mid-2012 and become fully operational in 2013.
