Zambia has launched investigations to determine the cause of last week's nationwide power blackout, which disrupted copper production, Mines and Minerals Development Minister Maxwell Mwale said.

Mwale said officials from the Ministry of Energy and state power utility Zesco have started to probe possible causes of the outage, the first since the country was plunged into darkness for several days in 2008, reports Reuters.

Mwale told Reuters that production at the mines is affected, but he is yet to receive a full report from the Minister of Energy.
