Germany’s Finance Ministry is in talks with utilities over the future of nuclear power plants in the country.

Ministry spokesman Michael Offer told Bloomberg that a planned tax on nuclear fuels would be implemented as envisaged, contrary to recent newspaper reports.

The government aims to complete its plans for the nuclear power industry by the end of August this year, and will produce a draft for consideration in September.

The government said it favours an extension of the operational life of German nuclear plants beyond the previously set deadline of 2021.
