Turbines assembled for Portland General Electric’s Biglow Canyon Wind Farm (PGE) have begun generating power for Pacific Northwest’s electricity grid in Oregon, US.

The 450MW wind farm worth $1bn in investments is PGE’s first fully owned wind power facility.

Currently, 24 of the 76 turbines to be installed in the third phase are generating power and the installation is expected to be complete by the end of the third quarter of 2010.

Power was first produced in Phase 1 of the project in December 2007 with 76 turbines, and Phase 2 started in August last year with 65 turbines and a total capacity of 275MW.

Biglow Canyon Wind Farm, PGE’s largest renewable energy project, is also expected to be one of the largest wind power facilities in the US Pacific Northwest.
