Siemens transformer works in Kalwa, India, has delivered its first high-voltage direct current (HDVC) transformer for Adani Power.

The converter transformer, with a rating of 500 MVA and a operating voltage of 500kV, is first of 11 transformers that Siemens is building at its Indian facility for the HVDC transmission system of Adani Power.

Currently, Siemens Energy is constructing a bipolar 2,500MW HVDC system for the Indian private investor.

Starting in February 2011, the system, including the converter transformers, will transmit 2,500MW of power from a coal-fired power plant near Mundra to the industrial regions of Haryana state near New Delhi.

Opened in December 2007, the Kalwa factory is Siemens' first transformer works in India.
