LDK Solar Opens New Solar Cell Production Unit

LDK Solar has started operations at its new solar cell production facility in Xinyu Cityi in Jiangxi province, China.

The firm has successfully completed installation and trial runs of the first production line of solar cells in its newly installed manufacturing facility in Xinyu City.

With the new facility, the manufacturer of multicrystalline solar wafers and PV products said it has expanded its vertical manufacturing capability.

LDK Solar chairman and CEO Xiaofeng Peng said that the objective of in-house cell production is to produce about 50% of their module manufacturing needs, reducing the cost of modules and attaining a stable supply of cells.
