The US-based California Energy Commission (CEC) has approved $6bn in funding for the Blythe solar power project being jointly developed by Chevron Corporation and Solar Millennium AG.
The Blythe project will be built in Riverside County and is capable of producing up to 1,000MW of power through four independent units of 250MW each.
The parabolic trough devices would be used to focus sunlight on a fluid to generate steam, which drives generating turbines.
The CEC has recently approved two 250MW projects in the Mojave Desert for NextEra and has three more power projects on its agenda, according to The Philadelphia Business Journal.
