Iberdrola Renewables has signed a power purchase agreement with the city of Bryan, Texas US, that will purchase 30MW of power from Iberdrola Renewables' Peñascal 2 Wind Project.

The 202MW Peñascal 2 Wind Project in Kenedy County, Texas, began commercial operations in February 2010.

Bryan Texas Utilities (BTU) general manager Dan Wilkerson said that it will meet a portion of the expected near-term demand growth of the BTU system’s ratepayers with clean, renewable energy at a price competitive with conventional alternatives.

"The Peññascal Wind project is favourably located and has already begun operations, further diversifying and hedging BTU’s power supply," Wilkerson said.

Deliveries from the 15-year power purchase agreement to Bryan will begin on 1 January 2011.
