BGR Energy systems secures boiler supply contract in India

Power-equipment manufacturer BGR Energy Systems has received an INR18.55bn ($362m) contract from NTPC to supply two 660MW boilers to the Solapur power plant in Maharashtra, India.

Power-equipment manufacturer BGR Energy Systems has received an INR18.55bn ($362m) contract from NTPC to supply two 660MW boilers to the Solapur power plant in Maharashtra, India.

The contract will be executed in 48 months by BGR Boilers, a joint venture between Hitachi Power Europe and BGR Energy, which holds 70% equity participation.

BGR Energy chairman and managing director B.G Raghupathy said, "This order is a breakthrough of great significance to the company as we enter super-critical power equipment space with the first contract from NTPC, the largest utility in India.

In February this year, BGR Energy Systems emerged as the lowest bidder in the NTPC bulk tender for the supply of 11 units of 660MW super-critical boilers to various projects in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal.

The letter of award for the Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal sites are expected in two weeks.
