EDF Renewable Energy (EDF RE) has purchased two Switch Station solarpower projects from First Solar.
Currently under construction, the projects will be capable of producing 179MW of electricity, which will be sold under three power purchase agreements to subsidiaries of NV Energy.
The projects are located on land managed by the US Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Clark County, Nevada. They are equipped with First Solar modules on horizontal, single-axis trackers.
One of the two projects is expected to be commissioned later this month, while the other is set to become operational by September this year.
The plants will be able to supply power for around 46,000 homes in Nevada.
EDF Renewable Energy executive vice-president Ryan Pfaff said: “The acquisition of Switch Station one and Switch Station two marks EDF RE’s entry into Nevada, a state with world-class solar resources where we plan to build additional projects in the coming years.”
The company has so far developed 9GW of wind, solar, biomass, and biogas projects throughout the US, Canada, and Mexico.
