E.ON power grid has selected France-based consulting, technology and outsourcing services company, Capgemini, to provide a range of smart meter management services for electricity and gas.
As per the deal, Capgemini will manage just under half of E.ON’s portfolio of smart meters in Sweden.
The technology firm will provide services that include regular and scheduled meter reading, field services, service desk, management reporting, data centre hosting and application management.
The deal also requires Capgemini to manage subcontractors like telecommunications, software providers, meter manufacturers, and field service providers.
Capgemini said that due to Swedish legislative requirements introduced in the late 1990s, E.ON conducted a variety of installation projects that would ensure its smart meter services to customers.
The technology firm has developed a solution, which will allow E.ON to consolidate its current smart metering services.
E.ON Elnat Sverige CEO Per-Olof Lindholm said Capgemini has previously delivered better energy services and will now further develop the latest technology with smart meters.
Capgemini European lead for smart energy services Peter Harris said: "We look forward to further strengthening and developing our great cooperation with E.ON and we are delighted that they renew their confidence in us.
"This win is one in a series of major recent successes in the utilities sector, demonstrating our continued success and momentum in the Smart Energy market worldwide."
In September 2012, E.ON outsourced its application services to Capgemini under an agreement worth about €50m.
