Fluor has completed the 125MW Arlington Valley Solar Energy II facility located in Maricopa County, Arizona, around 40 miles west of Phoenix.
Spanning across 1,160 acres, the project was completed for Arlington Valley Solar Energy II (AVSE II), a member of LS Power Group, following two years of engineering, procurement and construction work.
Equipped with 600,000 PV panels from Kyocera and Hyundai, the project will sell its output to San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) under a long-term power purchase agreement.
The company had commissioned the first 19MW power block at the project and commenced initial delivery of electricity to the customer SDG&E in May 2013.
The project also features 115kV and 500kV switchyards and 115kV and 500kV gen-tie electric lines to interconnect the generation facility to the existing Hassayampa 500kV switchyard and the electric transmission grid.
Initially, Fluor had received an EPC contract in October 2011, and later received a follow-on order to provide operations and maintenance services for the facility for an additional five-year period. The company's engineers in the Irvine, California office designed the facility.
Fluor Power business senior vice-president Matt McSorley said the project was completed with the close cooperation between LS Power, the project stakeholders and Fluor's project execution team.
"We're proud of the hard work of our engineering and construction teams, and we look forward to providing operations and maintenance services at the AVSE II facility," McSorley said.
Prudential Capital Group and a bank group led by Banco Santander completed financing for the $550m project in February 2012, while GE Energy Financial Services is participating in the project as an equity partner.
In May 2011, the company received a special use permit from Maricopa County for the project, which will directly convert sunlight to electricity.
