Shaw wins permit to construct combined-cycle plant in New Orleans

Shaw Group has received full notice to proceed on the construction of a new dual fuel combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant at Ninemile Point Steam Electric Station located in New Orleans, Louisiana, US.

Shaw Group has received full notice to proceed on the construction of a new dual fuel combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant at Ninemile Point Steam Electric Station located in New Orleans, Louisiana, US.

The permit allows the company to begin engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) works under a contract worth $500 million.

The 500MW plant, owned by Entergy, is expected to begin commercial operations by the beginning of 2015.

Shaw chairman, president and CEO J.M. Bernhard Jr said, "This project is a testament to Shaw's continued execution for our clients. For nearly 40 years, Shaw has worked with Entergy, providing engineering, procurement and construction solutions as well as fleetwide nuclear maintenance and modification services."

Shaw currently is providing extended power uprate plant modifications at Entergy's Grand Gulf Nuclear Station in the state of Mississippi.
