Siemens Energy Service has secured a long-term service programme contract extension for the 740MW Phu My 3 combined-cycle power plant in Vietnam.

Located in Ba Ria of Vung Tau Province, the build-operate-transfer (BOT) facility started commercial operations in 2004 and supplies power to Vietnam.

"The power plant has been running efficiently since 2004, and we're committed to sustaining this record and making further contributions to the development of energy sector in Vietnam."

With the contract extension, Siemens will provide maintenance service for the plant's major equipment for eight more years, as soon as the gas turbines have reached 100,000 equivalent operating hours.

Siemens will also provide maintenance services for the power station's two SGT5-4000F turbines, one SST5-5000 steam turbine and three generators.

The service contract is expected to help ensure safe and reliable operations over the lifecycle of the gas-fired power plant that contributes in diversification of energy sources in Vietnam.

The power station is operated by Phu My 3 BOT Power, a company jointly held by UK-based BP, SembCorp Utilities, and the consortium of Kyuden International and Sojitz.

Siemens Vietnam chief executive Dr Thai Lai Pham remarked about the long-term service contract extension with Phu My 3 BOT Power.

"With our premium products and service, the power plant has been running efficiently since 2004, and we're committed to sustaining this record and making further contributions to the development of energy sector in Vietnam," Pham added.

Siemens said during fiscal 2012 that its products and solutions have enabled customers to cut down their carbon dioxide emissions by more than 330 million tonnes.
