Siemens has won a contract from Guris Construction and Engineering for the supply of wind turbines totalling 165MW to three power projects to be developed in Turkey.

According to the contract, Siemens will provide 53 turbines with D3 platform direct drive technology and a five-year service agreement for the three onshore power projects in Mugla, Edirne-Tekirdag and Kirklareli.

Commissioning of the projects, the Fatma wind farm in Mugla, the Zeliha wind farm in Kirklareli and the Kanije wind farm in Edirne-Tekirdag, is expected between late 2014 and mid-2015.

The company will supply 25 gearless wind turbines totalling 77MW to the Fatma wind farm and a total of 28 direct drive wind turbines to the Zeliha wind farm and the Kanije wind farm.

Owned by Derne Clean Energy Generation, a subsidiary of Guris, the scope of all the projects includes civil, mechanical erection and electrical installations of the turbines.

"Following the purchase of the Iberdrola unit, Guris has become the license owner of the three proposed projects in the Turkey."

Once operational, these projects are expected to generate enough electricity to power up to 250,000 households and prevent 290,000t of CO2 emission a year.

Guris has acquired Iberdrola Renewable Energy Generation, Trade and Industry, an affiliate of Iberdrola Renovables Energia, and has changed the name of the affiliate company to Derne Clean Energy Generation.

Following the purchase of the Iberdrola unit, Guris has become the license owner of the three proposed projects in the Turkey.

Siemens' environmental portfolio including wind power and energy service has a recorded revenue of approximately €33bn in fiscal 2012, enabling customers to reduce their carbon dioxide emissions by more than 330 million tonnes.
