Danish power manufacturer Vestas has secured a firm order to supply wind turbines for the 185MW San Juan project in Chile.

Under the terms of the contract, Vestas will be responsible for the supply and installation of 56 of its V117-3.3MW turbine models at the facility.

Financial details about the contract have not yet been disclosed.

Brazilian renewable energy firm Latin America Power (LAP) is the owner for the project, which is being developed by Spain-based Elecnor.

Latin American Power had awarded $81m contract to Elecnor in May this year for the construction of the San Juan wind farm.

The project is located in northern Atacama region in the country. It is expected to turn the turbines operational by the end of 2016.

Vestas is expected to deliver the turbines in the first quarter of 2016.

The scope of the contract also assigns the Danish firm to offer its full-scope Active Output Management (AOM 4000) service for the facility for five years.

The wind farm will be connected to Chile’s central electricity interconnected system SIC through a double-circuit transmission system.

LAP initiated construction for the facility in 2012.

This new contract for the onshore wind project raises order intake for Vestas to 3,608 MW.

The firm recently also received another 150MW order to supply and commission 75 wind turbines for EDF Renewable Energy’s Salt Fork project in Texas, US.
