Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has awarded an approximately €30m contract to Alstom for the Banharpalli Super Thermal Power Project (STPP) in India.

Alstom will supply components and services for the Banharpalli STPP and will also co-operate with BHEL in designing and supplying identified pressure parts of two 660MW supercritical boilers, along with windboxes. It will also help BHEL with technical advisors during erection and commissioning of the units.

Key components will be manufactured in Alstom’s manufacturing facilities in Concordia, US and Durgapur, India. The units are expected to be commissioned by 2018.

Alstom thermal and renewable power vice president Patrick Ledermann said that the company will help to achieve a 3% to 4% higher plant efficiency compared to conventional subcritical design.

"Alstom’s supercritical boilers satisfy the most stringent environmental requirements and stand out for their robustness and high reliability," he added.

The Banharpalli contract comes in addition to contracts signed with BHEL between 2008 to 2014 for supercritical boilers in Barh II, Krishnapatnam, Bara, Yermaras, Bellary, Mouda, Nabinagar, Gadarwara, Suratgarh and most recently the Darlipalli and North Karanpura projects in India.
