The University of Nottingham in the UK has revealed plans to build three wind turbines near Clifton Bridge in a move to reduce its carbon emissions.
The 125m-long turbines will supply green electricity, equivalent to the domestic needs of around 5,000 houses, directly to the University Park campus.
The turbines would reduce the University’s carbon emissions by 7,000t per year, equal to 40% of the target reductions required by 2015.
The construction of the turbines is expected to take about six months, while a full planning application for the project would be submitted in February 2011 and is expected to be installed in 2012.
The UK currently emits 560 million tons of carbon dioxide every year, and the government’s target is to reduce the emission by 60% by 2050.
