The Bangladesh cabinet committee on government purchase has approved eight power projects including three big plants to generate 1,232MW of electricity.
Of the eight projects, five power plants are quick rental projects generating a total capacity of 340MW of electricity and will consume diesel and furnace oil, according to the Financial Express.
The three big projects include the Bibiyana-II 341MW gas-fired power plant, the Meghnaghat 335MW dual-fuel power project and the Bhola 150-225MW power plant.
Summit Industrial and its partner GE Energy will build the Bibiyana and Meghnaghat projects while the Bhola plant will be led by Malaysian Ranhill-STS consortium.
The rental power projects include a 50MW power plant by APR Energy at Meghnaghat, 90MW power plant by Cambridge Energy at Chandpur or Barisal and a 99MW plant by Wintara INC at Ghorashal.
A 48MW barge-mounted plant EQ Capital Energy at Ashuganj and a 53MW power plant by United Enterprises at Ashuganj.
