Ofgem has launched the second tender round for high-voltage transmission links worth £1.9bn for six wind projects of the coast of England and Wales.

According to the terms of the tender, companies will compete for the right to own and operate the links to 2.8GW of offshore wind farms for the next 20 years.

The winners of the first tender, which had attracted almost £4bn of investment appetite, will be announced in summer 2011.

Ofgem is also considering keeping the cost of the links as low as possible for the generators and ultimately consumers.

Tenders for the first three projects include Gwynt-y-Mor, Lincs and London Array while tenders for the other three projects are Humber Gateway, Race Bank and West of Duddon Sands, and are expected to start in Spring 2012.
