An undersea survey for a joint power grid between Saudi Arabia and Egypt will begin this month.
The survey will be completed in the Gulf of Aqaba region in 20 days and the consultancy services, designing and agreements for the grid are also expected to be completed soon.
Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Power Hassan Yunus told the Saudi Press Agency that international tenders for the implementation of the project will be invited early next year.
Feasibility studies show the advantages of the power link between the two countries as the peak hours of power consumption varied in the two countries.
Peak consumption for Saudi Arabia occurs in the noon hours, while demand for power peaks in the evening hours for Egypt.
The variation will allow exchange of power between the two countries throughout the day, according to Yunus.
The power lines between the two countries will have an estimated capacity for 3,000MW.
