EnerSys has sold the Extended Run Time Solution hydrogen fuel cell system to Time Warner Cable’s Southern California facility.

The 30KW fuel cell system, also installed by EnergySys at the facility, will provide reserve power during a commercial grid outage using Altergy Systems’ Freedom Power hydrogen proton exchange membrane fuel-cell technology.

The hydrogen fuel cell system uses hydrogen to generate electricity and has no green house emissions, unlike diesel generators, which use petroleum fuel for combustion.

The system has been deployed by Time Warner Cable to provide uninterrupted digital telephone, internet and video services to its customers.

Time Warner Cable has also deployed Altergy’s fill-in-place system to replace the hydrogen in the fuel cells without switching cylinders.
