SunEdison has interconnected a 70MW photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Rovigo, north-east Italy.

The plant, which is the largest single-operating PV solar power plant in Europe, has been completed and interconnected in nine months.

Once the plant becomes operational, it will generate enough energy to power more than 16,500 homes and eliminate emissions of over 40,000t of CO2.

The solar plant had been acquired by First Reserve, through a joint venture between First Reserve Corporation and SunEdison.

Recently, First Reserve financed $367m for the project.

SunEdison, a minority investor in the joint venture, will manage the ongoing operations and maintenance of the Rovigo plant.
