Iberdrola Renewables has begun work on its 26.8MW Lakeview Biomass Cogeneration Plant in Oregon, US.
The biomass plant will be a combined heat and power or cogeneration facility using technology and techniques to reduce environmental impact.
A combination of logging and sawmill residuals will be used as fuel for the plants, and will be supplied by Collins Pine Company from its Fremont Sawmill.
The plant will also be entirely air-cooled, reducing water use by more than 80%, compared with conventional water cooling.
The project is expected to complete construction and begin producing power for 18,000 homes by 2012.
