NRG Energy subsidiary, NRG Solar, will start work on its first power generation project, the Roadrunner Solar Electric Facility in New Mexico, US, by the end of the year.
Power from the 20MW photovoltaic facility will be sold to El Paso Electric, under a 20-year power purchase agreement.
NRG Solar will invest up to $21m in the project over the next three years and will serve about 16,000 homes.
First Solar will provide EPC services for the project using its advanced thin film photovoltaic solar modules.
The facility will be one of the first large-scale solar projects built in New Mexico, and the state’s second-largest photovoltaic facility when completed in 2011.
