Northern Pass Transmission has filed a transmission service agreement (TSA) with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
The TSA was signed by Northern Pass Transmission (Northern Pass) and HQ Hydro Renewable Energy, a Hydro-Québec subsidiary in October 2010.
The TSA provides the terms for the commercial use of the proposed transmission line ‘Northern Pass’, which would deliver hydroelectric energy into New England, US, from Québec, Canada.
The project, presently in the planning and permitting phase, requires the FERC approval for the TSA to move ahead.
The Northern Pass line will be able to deliver 1,200MW of competitively priced electricity from HQ hydroelectric facilities in Québec.
Northern Pass is a New Hampshire company owned jointly by subsidiaries of Northeast Utilities and NSTAR.
Work on the project is expected to be completed in late 2015.
