Pakistan and China have signed power project agreements totaling 2.3GW through wind turbines and solar panels, during Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao’s recent visit to Pakistan.
Pakistan’s Board of Investment (BoI) chairman Saleem Mandviwala told reporters in the area that the project requires a $6.5bn investment.
The development includes wind power projects of 1,000MW each to be set up in Punjab and Sindh in the country.
A 200MW solar power project would also be installed in Punjab along with another 100MW plant in Sindh.
The agreement signed between the China International Water and Electric Corporation and Pakistan’s Alternate Energy Development Board would also involve the transfer of technology from China to assist Pakistan in manufacturing solar panels and turbines.
